An experiment was carried out to the studies on Effect of Different Plastic Mulches on Growth and Yield of Winter Tomato in Northern Hill of Chhattisgarh was conducted in winter seasons of years 2010-11 in a randomized block design with four treatments.There are three primary non-degradable types of mulches used commercially in the production of vegetable crops viz., the plastic mulches were blue, black, ordinary clear mulch. Black plastic mulches suppressed weeds which were encouraged under clear, blue and ordinary clear mulches. Results indicated that soil temperature increased under the various colored plastic mulches about 3 to 6 °C more than it in barren soil. Black plastic is the most popular, because it retards weed growth and warms the soil up to some extent in the winter season.. Mulching increased marketable yield relative to barren soil as the plants grown black plastic mulch indicated a 65% increasing in marketable mulch compared to control treatment. The plastic mulches resulted in an 84-98% reduction in weed biomass.
