摘要

We have, in many ways, subjected red blood cells (RBCs) to cruel and unusual punishment. We have frozen, filtered, cooled, irradiated, washed, centrifuged, pathogen-inactivated, plasticized, and rejuvenated them, and we have developed all sorts of solutions to preserve and anti-coagulate them. It is no wonder that we are obligated to carefully evaluate survival, recovery, and effectiveness when changes are made in the way we store and preserve these hardy cells#
