For ages, the only type of rim or wheel used on light and medium trucks was the demountable rim. The cast spoke wheel was fixed to the hub, and the rim was installed over the spokes and fastened with clamps and lug nuts. As with any rim or wheel configuration (including the most modern ones), there were particular problems inherent in the demountable rim design. The most noticeable drawbacks were rim-spinning and wobbling.
