Density, coating and bead fusion measurements for inspection of lost foam patterns

In this work, x-ray, optical inspection and related nondestructive measurement technology have been applied to the inspection of beads and patterns. Density profiling and coating weight measurements have been successfully determined on foam patterns. A measure of bead fusion has also been developed and applied to several foam examples. The use of these evaluations is projected to the resulting casting, and suggests a way to better predict casting quality and yield.
