The cokeless cupola furnace uses natural gas to a much better extent than the coke cupola furnace uses coke. Therefore, the necessary quantity of heat for running the cokeless furnace is only half the amount as for a coke cupola of the samecapacity. This is based on the heat inputs, with complete combustion of the coke. The CO{sub}2-emission of the cokeless cupola is just 27% of the emission of a coke cupola. The silicon burn-off is a heat input of metallurgical cause. It is used optimallywhen melting, to cover a part of this heat requirement. Finally, the influence of the parameters (burner capacity BC; air/gas ratio, λ and oxygen enrichment, O{sub}2, air) on the melting capacity and burn-off have to be quantitatively assessed from the measurements and evaluations of previous and future tests.
