Down at the place they call the NSW Sapphire Coast is a real gem of a fishing spot. At first light, Myrtle Cove is a sight to behold; the serenity of the calm, dark-emerald waters broken only by the small fishing boats that take to the water. As our boat slowly churns through the heavy haze of morning fog that lies suspended between the lake's steep slopes, two sea eagles soar with instinctive purpose in search of the morning's prey. This is Myrtle Cove, Lake Wonboyn; a fishing haven locked away within a naturalist's paradise, One of the few remaining hidden gems on the New South Wales Sapphire Coast, Lake Wonboyn lies within the heart of the Nadgee Nature Reserve, 25 kilometres south of Eden. Located in this manner it's sheltered from the interminable traffic that passes along the well-beaten track that is the Princes Highway, Bad for tourism, great for fishing.
