Fishing Tuggerah lakes

The Toukley Bridge was a shaky old timber construction that attracted a lot of local anglers back in the sixties and seventies. I fished there a lot as a kid, having fun with chopper tailor, flathead and the occasional big blue nose bream. Memories, like the whole structure swaying whenever a large truck or bus passed over it or the old Scotsman showing me how to keep my hands warm in the middle of winter still remain vivid. Those great fishing days all changed in 1983 when a huge new span of concrete replaced the old timber bridge. The local council decided to retain the two ends of the old bridge as fishing platforms and after a year or so, barnacles and weed started growing on the new structure and the fish returned. Despite the fact that commercial netting is still in full swing and many saying the area is fished out, it's still very possible to catch fish around the Toukley Bridge and the rest of the Tuggerah Lakes system.
