Recalling the period preceding the discovery of the electrospark method, we shall note that B.R. Lazarenko worked as a junior researcher in the Lenin All-Union Electrotechnical Institute from 1936, and, in 1938, in the proceedings of this institute, he published his first scientific paper "A Study of the Transfer and Corrosion of Metals under the Action of Electric Discharges in Arcing Tips," which was the basis for opening the new electrospark method of metal machining. On June 28, 1943, senior researcher B.R. Lazarenko sensationally defended his candidate of engineering science dissertation "The Inversion of the Electric Erosion of Metals and the Methods of Controlling the Destruction of Electrical Contacts."
