Using potentiodynamic polarisation, polarisation resistance and electrochemical impedancespectroscopy measurements, the effect of amide treatment to magnesium metal matrix compositein 0.6 N sodium chloride medium has been studied. The corrosion potential E_(corr), corrosioncurrent I_(corr),polarisation resistance R_p and charge transfer resistance R_(ct)were determined fromthe corresponding plots. E_(corr)shifted towards more negative values while I_(corr) decreased withincreasing treatment time. Surface analysis with SEM and AFM showed an improvement insurface due to formation of a film. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies confirmed the film formation and the coordination of magnesium tothe oxygen in the amide compound.
