The demise of Australian Standards

At the annual meeting of SCAA Council in August, the report on our involvement in the development of new Australian Standards relevant to our industries, and the ongoing maintenance of existing standards, carried an ominous warning.Australian Standards, as we currently know and use them, are at best living on borrowed time. The familiar AS15 80 series of Laboratory Test Methods, the product and procedures guides such as AS2311 -Guide to the Painting of Buildings, the recently reprinted and revised AS2700 Colour series, and the many product specific standards, are just a few examples within our industry oj standards which will become obsolete or obsolescent in the coming years.It is very apparent that Standards Australia is not likely to finance the further maintenance of these useful documents.
