Having stripped and inspected the engine, the gearbox was the next subject for investigation. We knew that there were performance issues with this box, but there were no interesting bits in the oil and the running test produced only the problem of very stiff selection, given that we knew the gear lever and socket were up for replacement due to wear on both ball and socket.
