When overhauling a tractor's electrical system always ensure any of the old components are working satisfactorily if they are going to be refitted. Always disconnect the battery terminals before carrying out repairs on any part of the electrical system on the tractor to prevent risk of damage to the components. Touching the live wires on to the metal chassis will cause the wiring to overheat which may create sparks, or worse a fire hazard. Therefore, always disconnect the battery earth terminal first.
