Mike Williams considers an innovative tool carrier. Most tractors are designed for maximum versatility, but tool carriers are different because their job is to produce a high level of accuracy and efficiency for a narrow range of jobs in crops such as vegetables and sugar beet grown in rows. The idea of designing special tractors to meet the needs of farmers with row crops started in the mid-1920s with the first of the International Harvester Farmall models, and the Farmall approach was followed later by other American companies, including Allis-Chalmers with its highly-successful Model B tractor plus special designs from John Deere and Minneapolis-Moline.
