Terry Hanlon is proud that he restored a Power Major in its golden anniversary year. I have been interested in Fordson tractors since 1968 when, as a 15-year-old, I used to plough with a diesel Major and a Ransomes plough on my dad's farm at Dromome, Co Meath in Ireland. After I finished schooling I went to England and spent five years in the Nottingham area where I ended up working for William West and Son as a diesel fitter before emigrating to Ft McMurray in Alberta, Canada, in 1976. After four years as a mechanic I went into business for myself with a fellow Canadian. We had heavy equipment, bulldozers, diggers, motor graders etc and we contracted to oil companies to build their roads and pipelines. Over the following 26 years we had four companies, the last one being sold in 2006.
