Presentations at the IOM~3 Annual Commodity Meeting-Gold

The following four papers in this issue of Applied Earth Sciences are important contributions to the appreciation of gold in its global context. The papers were presented at the Institute's 27th Annual Commodity Meeting, which was held on 28 October 2004 at Burlington House in London. Founded in 1978, this was always been a prestigious event in the former Institution of Mining and Metallurgy's calendar and is now jointly organised by the Applied Earth Science Division and Minsouth. The aim of the 1-day meetings has always been to provide a comprehensive, but succinct, state-of-the-art overview of a chosen commodity, through a series of presentations by invited distinguished speakers. Adopting a cradle-to-grave approach, the programme has encompassed coverage geology and world resources, past, present and anticipated future supply and demand, exploration, extraction and processing, including environmental considerations, together with principal current and future uses.
