CHINA'S TiO_2 PIGMENT & FEEDSTOCK MARKETS:OPPORTUNITIES OR A PANDORA'S BOX?

Speakers at the recent IM-17 conference in Barcelona (29-31 March 2004) shed some fresh light on China's pigment and minerals markets,while at the same time adding to the confusion about this large and potentially attractive market.Certainly,TiO2 pigment consumption in China has been rising rapidly in recent years.The year-on-year growth rate has been estimated at nearly 25% for 2002.But,because of the paucity of hard data regarding China's pigment production and consumption,global pigment and feedstock suppliers cannot quite decide if they should be wildly optimistic or deeply skeptical about their long-term prospects for success in the Chinese market.
