KENMARE: Output at Moma Affected by Floods & Power Outages

The company's ilmenite production for full-year 2015 was 763,500 tonnes - 11% lower than in 2014. Zircon and rutile production in 2014 were at similar levels to those reported for 2014. During January and February 2015, northern Mozambique was affected by severe rainfall and flooding, worse than at any time since the mid-1980s. The power transmission infrastructure was damaged and the Moma mine was without access to national grid power supplies for 57 days. The company relied on its captively owned diesel-fuelled generators and its Dip Doctor (for voltage stabilisation) to maintain operations, albeit at a reduced level.
