Kenmare strives for full Moma output

KENMARE Resources plc is implementing an improvement plan at its Moma minerals sands project in Mozambique, after the performance of its contractor was found wanting. Kenmare set the tasks for its contractor last year, and following the failure to achieve the criteria required, the contractor was given a series of corrective actions designed to bring the operation to full production of 800,000t/y of ilmenite, plus 21,000t/y of rutile and 56,000t/y of zircon, during the second half of this year. Full production was originally forecast for 2007. Michael Carvill, managing director, speaking in London this week at the Minesite Forum, said building up production had taken longer than expected and will now be completed by the end of 2009.
