GERMANY: Explosion at Uerdingen Causes Huntsman $US 8 mn Worth of Damage

The three-week outage at Huntsman's Krefeld-Uerdingen TiO2 pigment plant in August 2015 due to an explosion in a nitrogen storage tank operated and maintained by a third-party caused Huntsman approximately $US 8 million worth of damage. This includes $US 3 million for the repair of affected buildings and equipment plus clean-up costs and $US 5 million attributable to lost sales volume and unabsorbed fixed costs. The explosion occurred at about 14:00 on Wednesday 5 August, resulting in injuries to 19 people. Four were quite seriously injured, requiring treatment in hospital. There were no fatalities.
