The major disposal in H1 2004 was Rio Tinto's sale of its 13.6% stake in Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold,though this was offset by an impairment charge of US 160 million relating to the Colwyo coal business and by the adverse effect (US 89 million) of movements in currency exchange rates on the corporation's US debt and intra-group balances.
