A METHOD TO PRODUCE CAST SLAG STRUCTURAL'S NAMELY RAILWAY SLEEPER, BEAM, COLUMN, SLAB AND PRESSURE PIPE FROM MOLTEN BLAST FURNACE SLAG REACTED WITH IRON OXIDES AND BASALT STONE AGGREGATE ALONG WITH STEEL REINFORCEMENT BEING HOT AIR HEATED PRIOR TO CASTING
A METHOD TO PRODUCE CAST SLAG STRUCTURAL'S NAMELY RAILWAY SLEEPER, BEAM, COLUMN, SLAB AND PRESSURE PIPE FROM MOLTEN BLAST FURNACE SLAG REACTED WITH IRON OXIDES AND BASALT STONE AGGREGATE ALONG WITH STEEL REINFORCEMENT BEING HOT AIR HEATED PRIOR TO CASTING
The present invention relates to production of cast slag structurals namely Railway sleeper, Beam, Column, Slab and pressure pipe, from molten blast furnace slag reacted with iron oxide and basalt stone aggregate along with steel reinforcement being hot air heated prior to casting. The molten slag is reacted with iron oxide for higher strength - In a pit and flows to fill a double walled mould made of steel plates with inner walls also of steel plates coated with water glass and carbon powder having insulation material sheet between inner and outer casing. A steel bar reinforcement cage is kept inside the mould before pouring molten slag. The cast is normally cold for 8-12 hours before stripping. In a steel plant where molten slag is produced in Blast Furnace operation, the moulds are mounted a railway carriage. They are internally heated by passing hot air or flue gas having temperature around 300°C before casting. The carriage moves on rails to continuously fill good number of moulds on the carriage.
