Jinzhou Titanium Industry Co. (part of the Pangang group) is nearing completion of a project to double its capacity at Jinzhou-Taihe (Liaoning province) by the end of this year, raising capacity here from 30,000 t.p.a. to 60,000 t.p.a.. The company plans to raise its capacity to 120,000 t.p.a. by the end of 2014.The TiC>2 business here was originally managed by Jinzhou Ferroalloys and it included operation of the country's only chloride-route TiO2 facility, employing the molten-salt process. In 2003, this plant had a nameplate capacity of 15,000 t.p.a., but normally achieved less than 60% capacity utilisation. Evidently, a number of technical improvements have been made since then, apparently without foreign assistance.
