Intramolecular dynamics of I, in the electronic state B was studied by the 'pump-probe' method with the use of chirped femtosecond light pulses. It was observed that phase modulation of both pump and probe pulses influences the dependence of the intensity of the detected fluorescence from the I-2 electronic f-state on the time delay between the pump and probe pulses. Qualitative analysis of experimental data shows that the phase modulation of the pump femtosecond light pulse affects the degree of localisation and the decay of the vibrational wave packet in the electronic B-state. The results obtained indicate the possibility of controlling intramolecular dynamics by varying the phase characteristics of the pump and probe pulses. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. [References: 18]
