ArcelorMittal SA cuts tinplate prices by up to 30 percent

South African steel group ArcelorMittal SA announced that prices for tinplate for food and beverage packaging products would be reduced by an average of 30 percent and 26 percent respectively from 30th September until 31 st March 2010. The group said that the decrease was in line with an agreement with its key customers in the packaging industry to adjust prices midway through the 2009/10 contract period. The price reduction reflects the strong performance of the rand to the US dollar over the past six months, whereas international tinplate prices have been largely steady.
