Cushing's syndrome in the cat - a review.

After a general introduction on the physiology of cortisol production, this review covers the aetiology of the Cushing's syndrome (over-activity of the adrenal gland), signs, anamnesis, clinical signs, laboratory findings, endocrine function tests (corticoid-creatinine quotient in urine; ACTH stimulation test; low-dose-dexamethasone-suppression test; endogenous ACTH; and the high-dose dexamethasone suppression test), diagnostic imaging techniques (radiology, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and computer tomography), therapy (surgical, radiation and medicinal) and prognosis.
