HLA-DRB1, with more than 390 alleles identified until now (1), is the most polymorphic locus in the HLA system. In this study, we report the identification of a new HLA-DRB1*04 allele, officially named HLA-DRB 1*0451, which was detected by sequence-based typing (SBT) of a Korean baby's cord blood donor sample (ID no. CH04021606) donated to the cord blood bank. Briefly, genomic DNA isolated from Korean cord blood units and all of HLA-DRB1 exon 2 was amplified using sequence-specific primers. The amplified products were sequenced in both directions using a 3730XL DNA Analyzer (Applied Biosystems,) or a ABI PRISM?3100 Genetic Analyzer (Applied Biosystems), and sequencing was performed using the BigDye?Terminator v3.1 Cycle Sequencing Kit (Applied Biosystems). The sample was typed as A*240201; B*3701, *400201; Cw*0304, *0602; DRB 1*0451, *100101; DRB4*010301; DQAP0105, *030101; DQBl*030201, *050101; DPAl*020101, *020202; DPB 1*0501, *1301.
