Green concerns such as biodegradability and compostability are among the major topics occupying the tobacco film industry, as the tobacco industry as whole strives to appear more eco-friendly. Moves to harness the massive potential of Asia are also firmly on the agenda. "One of the major areas of developments we have been working on is identifyinga "green" film or laminate specification that delivers the required barrier for tobacco products but also comes from a sustainable, recyclable or biodegradable source. As a result we have developed a range of flexible products that meet these requirements and offer a more environmentally-friendly way to pack tobacco. One of the major issues to overcome was to deliver an acceptable machine performance on the packing lines compared to the high- speed materials used throughout the industry, but this we accomplished."
