A clinical field trial of Ingelvac(R) M. hyo administered to three week old piglets in a herd infected with Mycoplasma hyopneumonia The objective of this clinical trial was to investigate the efficacy of Ingelvac(R) M. hyo, a single administration vaccine, in a Mycoplasma hyopneumonia infected herd under German field conditions. The vaccine was administered to three week old piglets at weaning. Piglets vaccinated with a conventional vaccine (Stellamune(R), Pfizer), administered twice, served as positive controls and piglets injected once at weaning with isotonic sodium chloride, as a placebo, served as a negative control group. The efficacy was assessed by scoring lung and pleural lesions at the slaughterhouse after a minimum of 22 weeks post vaccination. The results indicated that vaccination with Ingelvac(R) M. hyo resulted in a significantly lower prevalence of lung and pleural lesions than in the negative control group. Vaccination with Ingelvac(R) M. hyo compared to Stellamune(R) resulted in a lower prevalence of lesions, but the difference was not significantly different. No local or systemic side effects were observed for any of the products used.
