Japan's Exports Of Stainless Steel Scrap In 1st Half 2006 Increased By 44 percent From That In 2005

According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Finance, the exports of stainless steel scrap from Japan in the first half (January - June) of 2006 as well as in a single month of June, broken down by shipping ports, were as per the tables (1), (2) and (3) attached hereto. Namely, Japan exported 21,501 tons of stainless steel scrap in June of 2006, which decreased by 16.2 percent compared with that (25,683 tons) in the previous month of May but had a considerable increase of 49.5 percent compared to that (14,373 tons) in the same month of 2005. The quantities of stainless steel scrap exported from Japan to main destinations in June of 2006 were for South Korea : 17,978 tons, for China : 3,712 tons and for Hong Kong : 172 tons. The exports in June recovered that for South Korea but had a large decline of 72.8 percent for that shipped to China.
