According to C.V.G. Ferrominera Orinoco C.A. (FMO) which depends on Corporacion Venezolana de Guayana (CVG), iron ore exports from Venezuela in 2006 remained 5.594 Mt, down 2.04 Mt or 26.7 percent from the previous year. Iron ore shipments during 2006 in the country totaled approximately 19.0 Mt (down 2.0 Mt from 2005), of which roughly 13.5 Mt (flat with 2005 levels) was for the home markets, with the remaining 5.5 Mt destined for the overseas markets.
