Exports Of Australian Iron Ore In 2005 (Port Hedland)

According to the Foreign Trade Statistics released by Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), a total of 96,405 thousand metric tons (Kt) of iron ore was exported from Port Hedland in January to December 2005, an increase of 14,086 Kt (17.1 percent) from the 2004 exports of 82,319 Kt. Exports to China in particular almost doubled to 46,860 Kt to position the port as Australia's largest iron ore shipping port to China. The share of exports to China rose from 29.7 percent in 2004 to nearly a half or 48.6 percent in 2005. Port Hedland is servicing shipments of BHP Billiton-produced iron ore.
