Genetic modification of animals in the next century.

摘要

In this review of work on livestock, consideration is given to the production of transgenics to (1) improve growth and body composition, (2) change intermediary metabolism (by incorporating genes for synthesis of cysteine and for synthesis of glucose from acetate), (3) express pharmaceutical products in mammary glands, and (4) modify milk composition. Methods of integrating transgenes into a breeding population are briefly examined.
