Hypophysectomy as a treatment for canine and feline Cushing's disease

Cushing's disease of pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism is common in dogs and rare in cats. The cause is usually a pituitary cortocotroph adenoma. Pituitary imaging with computed tomography is required to assess the size and location of the pituitary adenoma in relation to the surgical landmarks. Microsurgical transsphenoidal hypophysectomy is an effective method of treatment for canine and feline Cushing's disease.
