PLENTY TO SEE AT BRITISH CARROT GROWERS ASSOCIATION TRIALS DESPITE RAIN

Just as the 2006 British Carrot Growers' Association's variety demonstration and trade exhibition at Inkersal Grange Farm, Bilsthorpe near Newark in Nottinghamshire was due to get under way, down came the rain. A heavy band of showers and more persistent rain had been expected and for once, at least, the forecast proved to be accurate. Soon only the hardiest of visitors were tempted out to inspect the plots, but with many others in the marquee the trade exhibitors with inside pitches were unusually busy. But those who did venture outside saw all the latest offerings from seven seed companies including a hybrid Chantenay variety, a new Flakkee type, and several new Nantes hybrids, one of which is targeted specifically at the needs of organic systems.
