摘要

Should vets do more to engage with online pet owners? This was one of the questions debated at the BlogPaws 2013 pet social media conference, which attracted over 500 delegates to Washington DC for three days of lectures, commercial exhibits and socialising. Among them was Pete Wedderburn, who reports on ways in which vets can engage with social media. BLOGPAWS started as an online community of 'pet bloggers' - people who write blogs; Facebook pages or Twitter accounts posing as an animal. 'Cokie theCat' is a typical example. Pet bloggers write about the world from the imaginary perspective of the animal, providing entertainment and education. BlogPaws was set up four years ago to give such individuals some of the benefits of working together as agroup, such as liaising with the pet industry enabling sponsorship and advertising.
