Sales of prestige beauty gift sets in U.S. department stores - including makeup and skin-care sets, as well as fragrance - have been growing double digits going into the holiday season, The NPD Group reports. During the January-October period of 2012, prestige beauty products packaged in sets experienced 16% growth in dollar sales, compared with the same period a year ago, the market research firm says. The attraction of beauty gift sets, particularly for the holiday shopper, is in their convenience as much as their often elegant packaging. "Gift sets have often provided a somewhat stress-free purchase for the shopper to get in and out of the madness that surrounds shopping during the holiday season," notes NPD's Karen Grant, vice president and senior global industry analyst, in the firm's Nov. 27 release.
