The creators of the three-step Proactiv system have introduced a simplified acne treatment for teens. X Out is a one-step wash-in treatment that contains 8.5% benzoyl peroxide to help kill the bacteria that causes breakouts, according to a release. The "anti-hassle, anti-drama, anti-breakout" treatment also contains polyethylene beads to exfoliate dead skin cells, glycerin to help maintain a "natural moisture balance" and menthol for a hint of tingle. At a July 20 launch event, Dr. Alyson Levine, a dermatologist who specializes in teen skin, noted that with teens and their acne medications, compliance is a problem.
