Competitive pressure from strong local brands drove L'Oreal SA in January to pull its Gamier brand from China, according to a Jan. 13 Euromonitor International blog post. With sales of both Gamier hair and skin care ceasing in China, L'Oreal can focus on other brands, including L'Oreal Paris and Maybelline, the latter ranking first in the color cosmetics category in the region, according to the company ("In Brief: Coty Eyes OPI Growth; RevitaLash Is Back; Gamier Pulled From China" - "The Rose Sheet," Jan. 13, 2014).
