A pending class-action suit against The Estee Lauder Companies alleges the marketer jazzes up its adver- tising for Clinique products with scientific references to mislead consumers into thinking products are approved by FDA and can deliver benefits on par with drugs. "Estee has made and continues to make deceptive, false, or misleading claims and promises to consumers about the efficacy of its Clinique products in a pervasive, nationwide marketing scheme that confuses and misleads consumers about the true nature of the products," says the suit, filed in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey Jan. 11.
