A trio of bills aims to curb organized retail crime by clarifying jurisdiction in combating theft and illegal resale of consumer goods.The bills-the"Organized Retail Crime Act,"H.R.1173,the"E-Fencing Enforcement Act,"H.R.1166,and the"Combating Organized Retail Crime Act,"S.470-were introduced Feb.25.Paul Jones,VP of asset protection with the Retail Industry Leaders Association,estimated that about half of the 10 billion ORC costs retailers annually comes from consumer health product categories,with OTC drugs,smoking cessation therapies and infant formula among the most targeted products.
