"Bone black" will be permitted for use starting July 18 as a color additive in eyeliner,eye shadow,mascara and face powder in the absence of stakeholder objections,according to an FDA notice published June 18 in the Federal Register.Based partly on its review of a petition filed in 1995 by the Ebonex Corp.- "the largest manufacturer of bone-black pigments in North America," according to the company's Web site - FDA has determined that "there is a reasonable certainty that no harm will rresult" from the safe use of bone-black color additive for the petitioned indication.
