Chance, coincidence and atracurium

Chance and coincidence were among the factors that led to the development of atracurium, the first non-depolarising muscle relaxant for use in surgery. Its history was described by its inventor, Professor John B.Stenlake, FRPharmS (emeritus professor, University of Strathclyde), when be gave his Hanbury memorial medal lecture at the conference on 26 September.
