Drip Irrigation Gains Ground

Slowly, but surely, more producers are trying drip irrigation as continue to perfect its usage in peanut production.Some changes in our industry happen quickly. The adoption of auto-steer capability in tractors and the switch from drying peanuts in 14-foot trailers to drying in semi-length trailers are two changes that happened pretty fast. Other changes take years toaccomplish. Changes in irrigation have happened much more slowly, and dryland production can still be found on a significant percentage of the acreage.Jack Chastain, who has been a producer and also in the peanut buying, warehousing and shelling business since the late 60s, talked at the Southern Peanut Growers Conference about how the industry has changed to become more efficient and sustainable, andirrigation methods was part of that talk.
