"Most growers here use inoculants on their peanut acres," says Jason Woodward, Texas A&M University Extension peanut specialist. "You see many of them gravitating toward the liquid, in-furrow products. We've found the liquid products ensure better nodulation." The environmental conditions in Texas are harsh, complete with arid, dry soils. "That's hard on the Rhizobia in the soil - they're living organisms and hot temperatures can reduce their population in the soil quite a bit," Woodward says. "We need to re-introduce fresh, robust Rhizobia into the soil and help peanut plants nodulate well. Because of these arid, dry conditions, we need inoculants every year to ensure good nodulation."
