Defend against herbicide resistance

The older herbicides mostly have broad or multiple modes of action that make it hard for weeds to develop resistance,so it has not been much of a risk until relatively recently. The newer herbicide have narrower modes of action. This is of great benifit in limiting risk to non-target species, but it also makes it easier for weeds to develop resistance.
