Improving a tube mill's efficiency can be accomplished by improving its entry equipment. Choosing the right combination of equipment can prove beneficial in optimizing the tube mill's uptime and efficiency. When considering entry equipment options, a tube mill operator should take several factors into account. Capital funding, product diversity, facility limitations, and tube mill operating speeds all influence tube mill entry equipment choices. The minimum requirement for feeding strip-such as thin, low-temper material-to a roll forming section of a tube mill is a single stock reel (see Figure 1). The typical steps for managing a coil changeover for this setup are: Deplete the coil from the stock reel. Stop the mill. Load the new coil onto the stock reel. Thread the new coil through the tube mill. Restart the mill.
