Welding technologies reduce on-site weld time for heavy-wall pipeline project

Sunland Construction Inc., Eunice, La., provides welding services to oil and gas companies throughout the U.S. A recent natural gas pipeline installation, the Gulfstream Project, required the company to install more than 15 miles of 36-in. -dia. pipe. Because it involved fairly heavy pipe-0.635 to 1.22 in. thick-the company sought out technologies that would reduce the number of welding passes and decrease weld time.
