Germany's aircraft industry developed the technology for manufacturing hydroformed tubular structures before World War II. Since then several industries have used the forming process, including the automotive industry. Now more and more auto engineers are considering the technology for use in their structural designs because of its potential for material reduction, part consolidation, and design flexibility.
