Sandia Natl. Laboratories receives R&D 100 Award

The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) has announced that the Predictive Model and Methodology for Heat Treatment Distortion project participant, Sandia National Laboratories, has received R&D Magazine's R&D 100 Award for the Sandia Microstructure-Property Model and Software Package.The material-modeling software that Sandia developed is designed to predict the stress state and failure during manufacturing processes.In the NCMS project, Sandia's multiphase plasticity model was exercised to resolve residual stress profiles and distortional shape changes in disk blanks used in gear production lines.
