The best way to understand the importance of this article begins with the last three sentences of the article. Outcomes after diagnosis vary based on a number of factors. The article does not address the numerous factors related to outcomes after lumbar disc herniation in high-performance professional athletes. I agree the article does prove that surgical treatment is a valid option for professional athletes after lumbar disc herniation. However, I do not think the article provides that or suggests that amateur or nonathletes can participate in vigorous rehabilitation exercises after treatment.
